Here are the two formulas. A regular grocery store buys a product we call “x” for $3 in bulk amounts. It sells the product for $6 and sometimes puts it on sale for $5.25 if sales are slow. From that $6 the store has to pay rent, taxes and salaries.
Mamdani’s socialists also have to buy product “x” in bulk for the same $3. Perhaps more. The capital to buy it comes from tax payers who then have to also buy with their own cash but Mamdani’s store sells product x for $4 dollars, 2 dollars less than a regular grocery sells it for but Mamdani’s product costs more as there is no capitalist using his own capital to buy it and Mamdani depends on tax payers 100%. Now we come to the rent , taxes and salaries. Mamdani can perhaps get a bill passed making the city owned store not pay taxes and rent or maybe just less than a private citizen would. But salaries have to be paid – another charge on taxpayers. Things like electrical, refrigeration costs, furniture and display shelving also a has to be bought. All paid for by taxpayers. In the end the cost to consumers who are also the taxpayers will be far more for them despite the item selling for less than in privately owned stores. Because there is no “capitalist” putting up the capital for pay for all those things.
Anyone who believes his socialist program will work does not understand basic math. That is how they are able to convince the uneducated.
I’m old enough to have traveled Eastern Europe before the wall came down in1989. I am witness to Communism at its worst with shortages and lines queuing for bread. I also made numerous visits to Venezuela prior to the Chavez regime and saw how prosperous and contented the populace was.
Communism has never worked and goes against human instincts and the wish in most humans to improve their lives and prosperity.
The economic study of the success or failure of a grocery store is absolutely accurate and any entrepreneur will bear this out.
To all those unlucky to have Mamdani as their Mayor, my condolences. Vote him out as soon as you possibly can !
