Are the illegals paying income taxes? I doubt it. We had our roof, with house addition, done this past summer and the roofing company we hired had six young Spanish speaking workers doing our roof. The owner of the company said to pay him two $5,000 checks. When asked why, he said so it doesn’t alert the bank to a $10,000 withdrawal. Well, we now have young Spanish speaking people living living down the street from us in a rented house. They have three white vans with Massachusetts license plates. They keep to themselves and don’t bother anyone. I don’t think they can speak English. Hey, I don’t care if they live there as long as they came here legally and pay taxes.
Please tell me you did NOT pay him that way! If you DID, you are an accomplice to his screwing honest Americans.

Annie, Illegals aren’t paying income taxes or SS deductions from their pay. They get paid off the books, under the table, for much less than American workers. If your “neighbors” can’t speak English, they’re likely here illegally.

Think about it the Americas safety nets BANKRUPT,no medicare OR even medicaid no social security, NO SSI …No FEMA!!…What will you have then when a NATIONAL crisis strikes?!?
$200/sq. for tear-off and re-roof, is amazing. Since Biden, contractors in the upper Midwest are charging $500-$750/sq. and using non-English speaking labor. And insurance companies are paying it for claims, while the common working man pays the same rate, when his 30 yr. shingles don’t quite last that long.
I agree with the contractor! Most of the large home builders hire migrants. These people are mostly not skilled plumbers,
electricians, roofers or builders. The result is shoddy work that results in costly repairs from air conditioning , heating , flooring etc being installed incorrectly. The lower cost of labor to the builders results in major issues for the homebuyer! It happened to my husband and I and many others I have talked to. Saving money cost more in the long run.This is why the trades need to be taught in High School!
