Finally, someone with a gun did something! Once a person(s) forcibly breaks into your home, your personal safety and that of your family, takes precedence over the perp’s safety.
I would have filled him full of holes. When the cops asked why I shot him so many times I would have replied I ran out of bullets. Not but one of us living to lie about things.
